Fraser Eagle takes top award for Grayrigg recovery

Fraser Eagle has won a top industry award after helping a leading train company recover from a serious derailment.

The company’s managed transport division, Fraser Eagle Management Services, won the Most Effective Recovery category at the 2007 Business Continuity Awards in London on Thursday.

The awards are run by Continuity Insurance and Risk (CIR) - the UK’s leading risk management and insurance journal.

Fraser Eagle was shortlisted for the accolade after helping to transport Virgin Trains’ passengers in the wake of the Grayrigg train derailment in Cumbria in February.

The incident closed the West Coast Mainline for two weeks, but within hours of the crash, Fraser Eagle had loaded some 6,000 stranded passengers onto emergency coaches.

The company then ran 50 coaches per day between Preston and Carlisle for the next two weeks, transporting some 142,000 passengers in total.

“What happened at Grayrigg in February could have been a major blow for the rail industry,” says Steve Ellis, managing director of Fraser Eagle Management Services.

“Every credit should go to Virgin Trains for the excellent way the company handled the disaster and we at Fraser Eagle were pleased that we were able to help them keep passengers moving.

“This demonstrates how effective risk management can be in the transport industry.”
